On the north side of Singampunari town, there was a dark thick forest. If anyone goes in he would not be able to see what is outside. This forest of high leaves ( Katthaalai Kaadu ) was infested with poisonous snakes and therefore no one dared to go there. However the Siddhar used to spend days together in this forest in deep meditation. One day, a man came to have a darshan of the Siddha. Siddhar Muthuvaduganatha Swamigal pointed out to a rock at a distance and told him, “Cut a chunk of that rock & bring it here. When I go into deep meditation, carve a statue of mine, a replica of me sitting in meditation.
The sculptor did an excellent job, and did pranam to him. The Siddha was pleased & asked him, “What do you want from me?” The sculptor replied - “Swami, I’ve been married for many years but I do not have a child. Please bless me with a child.” Saying this, the man prostrated at his feet. The compassionate one took a lump of earth from the place where he sat for meditation everyday & put it in his mouth & blessed him. He returned after a year with a handsome baby boy & expressed his profound gratitude to the Swami.
All along that one year, whenever the Siddha went into meditation, he would place the statue close to him in such a way that it was touching his body. Thus he infused His Grace into that statue. Giving explicit instructions to his followers he told them, “When I enter the Jeeva Samadhi, this statue into which I’ve infused my Grace should be installed on my Samadhi. I’ll accept the Abhisheka Aradhana Archanas offered with love to me by my dear devotees through this statue & grant them whatever boon they want from me.
Today, in the Moolasthan of the Siddha’s temple this very statue can be seen in all its glory. Right below the statue, the Siddhar is seated even today in deep meditation! |
