A festival was organized in Singampunari by the Tamil lovers to popularize the beauty of the Tamil language. As soon as our Siddhar arrived at Singampunari from Shivaganga, he joined this meeting and started eulogizing the Tamil language in such a glorious manner that those who knew the language and also those who did not, were amazed at his brilliant exposition of the language. Just then, a poet who was an expert at singing ‘Venba’ joined the gathering. He called himself ‘Venbapuli’ and as he entered the hall, he announced his arrival arrogantly, “Here comes the Puli.” (In Tamil, Puli is a tiger).
With a firm belief that none could excel him as a poet, he walked in and with scant respect for the assembled scholars, he sat on a chair crossing his legs. The Siddha was furious. He roared angrily reciting a powerful couplet in Tamil humiliating this haughty tiger-poet.
The egoistic poet stared at Siddhar Muthuvaduganatha Swamigal. He saw the glow on his face. He realized that this was a divine poet and there was no way to win over him. He was disillusioned. Hanging his head down, he left the assembly. |
